As a Sandal or Shoe, Huaraches are Bohemian Chic
Some think huaraches are shoes because of closed front and back.
Others argue it’s a sandal; huaraches worn in the summer and feet can easily breathe through its open sides.
But one thing is clear: shoe lovers—from 1960’s hippies to fashion-trendy pavement pounders of 2006—love the unique, versatile appearance of the huarache.
As traditional footwear from Mexico once made from hand-worked leather and used rubber tires, the huarache is now a favorite of shoe design houses who are combining
the look of woven leaver with wedge heels, stacked heels and of course, traditional flats.
From New York City to Paris, Venezuela to Sydney, huaraches are a must-have as fashionistas everywhere are pairing their huaraches with peasant tops, frayed jeans,
fitted tanks and madras skirts.
Invented for Work, Reinvented for Style
Created in Mexico more than two hundred years ago, huaraches were made by poor people who could easily hand-make the comfortable, versatile shoe with natural leather.
Almost seventy years ago, huaraches were recreated. The sole of a huarache, once made from hard leather, was now made from recycled tires. Its natural leather upper
was replaced with hand-woven leather. The tires’ rubber coupled with a heavy leather weave made them popular because huaraches would not easily wear out.
The huarache of today has evolved yet again. Huaraches are made in a variety of colors and styles, with unique heels and woven leather patterns.
Click No Further, Sassy Shoes are Right Here!
Whether you believe huaraches are sandals or shoes, one thing is clear: they are definitely easy to find this season.
High-end shoe designer Cydney Mandel adds an oh-so sexy 3 ˝ inch heel to hauraches on a wooden platform sole. Michael Kors, who never falls short of sassy shoe designs,
combines the strappy look of huaraches with the extra comfortable stacked wedge heel found on the espadrille. For everyday appeal, Aerosoles places the huarache-like woven
leather on a 2-inch stacked heel.
With huaraches coming in a variety of colors with heels that are flat or wedged, stacked or platform, there is a huarache on the shelf
for shoe lovers everywhere.
